No matter if you are new to Internet marketing or a veteran, you will find that it is super easy to see what others are doing online and what business model they choose to use. This lends itself to you being able to locate the guru sites within your niche, review their sites and offers, then tear apart what they are doing.

How do you do this?

1. Read their sales letters

2. Sign up for their free offers and lists

3. See what they right on their forums

4. Follow their product launches saving every email they send out

5. Back track the sources of their traffic and links

Let’s take the first item, Sales letters, and see what you can do with it.

If you are selling one particular item, more than likely your marketing efforts had you writing up copy for a sales letter, then marketing it on your website. If you are just starting out and have not gotten this far, now is a good time to start. Check your competitor’s sites and see how they word their copy and mimic what they do. If it works for them, and they are among the top gurus in your niche, then it will work for you too.

If you do not have a product yet, you can see what affiliate products are offered in your niche on ClickBank.com. This is a free site to join so if you do not have an account yet, set one up. Most of the top products will provide you with website sales letters and other affiliate ads. You will want to search through the products in your niche either by percent referred or gravity. Once you are on the site you will know what this means in the search area.

These two areas will provide you with a good idea of the success the affiliate offers and how they are being pitched on the site. If the numbers in either category are high, this will tell you that affiliate selling the products have had a good amount of success, which in turn dictates that the accompanying sales letter converts well.

When you have decided on 3 or 4 products to check out, open up separate browser pages by using the New Tab feature on the File dropdown menu in your browser. Open up a separate page for each product so you can look at each sales page separately. You also want to open up your personal sales letter to compare and contrast copywriting styles.

Answer these questions:

1. What are you missing on your letter in comparison to the others?

2. Is it the amount of traffic coming to your site or obvious copywriting format?

3. Are you missing testimonials on your letter?

4. Do you have a personal story that provides a “hook” to real in subscribers?

5. Does your headline read as well as the others?

Each one of these questions are important when developing your sale letter strategies.

Hi, my name is Marcus and over the years, I have seen a drastic change in what has become of the internet. It has been five or more years but things have definitely changed on the internet. Let me explain, I’m talking about when I first started on the internet about 5 years ago. People were really just getting into this internet business thing. What they were doing is trying to figure out what type of business to open or operate online. I mean people were trying to find out what is selling and what the next big thing to sell online was. People were selling businesses, people were buying businesses this is what the internet was about. Not saying that we did not have to market and or advertise but because peoples focus was on owning and opening up an online business and because of this, many people made a lot of money. The internet was all about selling online businesses.

Now take a look today go online see what going on. I will tell you, because I am not so sure if people can see what I am talking about, but it’s definitely there. When I go online, I see people or businesses selling a lot of advertising and marketing for businesses. This to me means that the internet has out grown business owners ship. It is sort of like the housing market, at one point and time everybody had a house and was able to purchase one. In addition, that is what has happened on the internet, everyone owns a website with a business. I believe that there is way more people on the internet selling than there are people buying. The internet has been flooded with too many businesses and when it comes down to marketing or advertising we all are doing the same things and we all are selling at about 10% down from 25% in 2004. The internet has tried to make a change and go into this social networking direction. Which is ok but it has a lot of privacy issues and instead of being used as social networking people are using it for marketing and advertising purposes which made someone really rich. Nevertheless, back to my point the internet is all about marketing now. We all know that we need to sale in order to make money, but we need marketing to get the sale. So is it still beneficial to own and operate an online business? You do the math MARKETING or SALES…

Some people would say that sales are down on the internet because of what is going on with the economy. I would not go there, I think, and believe the internet is overcrowded and headed for a crash or in the next couple of years the internet will start to lose businesses due to the Economy.

If you’d like to write a compelling sales letter how would you go about getting started? One good way is to search internet marketing categories. For example if you are interested in affiliate marketing go to ClickBank and look up information on that subject.

Pick out some affiliate topics and in blue script you will see “view pitch page” for any subject. This will bring up the affiliate merchants sales page. The pages with the highest gravity will probably have the best sales letters.

Study the various sales letters and you will begin to see a common thread among them. They usually all start out with an attention grabbing headline. Some may seem to be insulting you at first. You may see something like: Why Would I Want a BOOB to Buy My Product? (usually in bright red script) Your first reaction might be, hey, is this guy suggesting I’m a boob?

As you read further, it might be saying, this product is so good it can only be appreciated by sophisticated readers like you, but not for some BOOB! However, the strategy is to pique your interest and get you to read further, and he probably succeeded.
